Four visits a year for your ornamental trees and shrubs

Our tree & shrub program covers ornamental trees and shrubs up to about 10 feet tall: the foundation plantings, hedges and specimen shrubs that frame your house. Four visits, each timed to what your plants need that season.

VISIT 1 · EARLY SPRING

Horticultural oil

A light oil that smothers overwintering insects and their eggs before they hatch and start feeding.

VISIT 2 · LATE SPRING

Foliar feeding + insect and mite control

Nutrients absorbed through the leaves for color and vigor, plus control for the insects and mites that chew and suck on new growth.

VISIT 3 · SUMMER

Foliar feeding + insect and mite control

A second round to keep plants fed through summer stress and stop the next generation of pests.

VISIT 4 · LATE FALL

Transfilm anti-desiccant

A protective film that helps evergreens hold moisture through winter wind and sun, so they don’t come out of winter brown and burned.

Our bloom rule: we never spray insecticide on a shrub while it is in bloom. Flowering shrubs wait until the flowers are done; only non-flowering plants get insect control on that visit.

Tree & shrub care is billed as its own ornamental service, and you can add it to any lawn program. Your price is based on what is actually in your beds, and it is put in writing before we start. See how we treat your lawn for the rest of our approach.

“I have been using Lawn Doctor for a few years and I am always satisfied with the service as well as the pricing. Most recently I had 1/3 of an acre aerated, seeded and fertilized for a very fair price. The technician did a great job and was very careful not to disturb flower beds while doing a very neat job. Would definitely recommend the service.”

“I’ve been using Lawn Doctor of Rockland-Pascack Valley-Saddle River for several years, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I originally switched to them after having a disappointing experience with another lawn care company.”

“James did a great job, thank you for putting grass seeds on some of the bare spots. Timing was perfect, it rained for a couple of days after 1st application. Thank you”

Questions about tree and shrub care

What size trees and shrubs do you cover?

Ornamental trees and shrubs up to about 10 feet tall. Larger trees need an arborist with lift equipment, and we are happy to point you to one.

Do you spray flowering shrubs?

Not with insecticide while they are in bloom. Flowering shrubs get insect control only after the flowers are done.

Do I need a lawn program to get tree and shrub care?

No. It is billed as its own ornamental service, so you can have it with or without a lawn program.

Is it safe for my dog and kids?

Every product is EPA-registered and applied exactly as the label directs. Keep kids and pets away from treated plants until the spray has dried, usually an hour or two.

Written price. Same technician. A real person on the phone.

The only thing between the lawn you have and the lawn you want is a phone call.
