Lawn fertilization that feeds the soil, not just the grass

Most lawn fertilizer is a straight synthetic feeding: a quick green-up that fades. Ours has been custom-blended to our own specifications since 2003, and it is a hybrid. Synthetic nutrients give the grass what it needs now. Branch Creek TriForce, blended right in, adds seven strains of beneficial soil bacteria plus humic acid that build the soil underneath, so the lawn holds moisture and nutrients better year after year.

Lime is built into every program, because most soil in Rockland and the Pascack Valley runs acidic, and grass cannot use what you feed it until the pH is right.

Summer is a heat-stress round, not a feeding

Pushing nitrogen in July heat stresses grass and feeds fungus. Our summer round has zero nitrogen. Instead it carries high potash, which hardens the grass against heat, and a wetting agent that helps water soak into dry, hard soil instead of running off. It also includes control for surface-feeding insects and ticks. The result is a lawn that stays greener in August while neighbors’ lawns brown out. Want more? Hydra-Guard adds heat and drought protection on top.

Weed control

Strong on weeds, light on your yard.

No 2,4-D

We pay more for Horsepower, a weed control without 2,4-D. It handles the weeds that shrug off cheaper products: violets, ground ivy, clover, dandelions and plantain.

Spot spraying

If a lawn is overrun, we treat the whole thing once to get it under control. After that we spot-spray the weeds that show up instead of blanketing the entire yard every visit.

A technician who knows your lawn

Same technician every visit, on a dedicated route. He knows where the violets come back and where the clover creeps in, so he treats those spots before they spread.

Crabgrass and grubs

Crabgrass is stopped in spring with a pre-emergent, applied before the soil warms enough for it to sprout. Grub prevention rides along with the second round of every program, and we use Acelepryn, which the EPA classifies as reduced-risk. We stopped using neonicotinoids for grubs in 2022, years before New York’s 2027 ban.

Fertilization, weed control, crabgrass prevention, grub prevention and lime are all included in every one of our three programs. No add-on charges, and no sales call in July. See how we treat your lawn for the full picture.

Us vs. the big national chains

No run-around. No sales call every month.

Most people come to us after a few seasons with a national company. Same national-grade products, local owners. Here is what changes.

“I have been using Lawn Doctor for a few years and I am always satisfied with the service as well as the pricing. Most recently I had 1/3 of an acre aerated, seeded and fertilized for a very fair price. The technician did a great job and was very careful not to disturb flower beds while doing a very neat job. Would definitely recommend the service.”

“I’ve been using Lawn Doctor of Rockland-Pascack Valley-Saddle River for several years, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I originally switched to them after having a disappointing experience with another lawn care company.”

“James did a great job, thank you for putting grass seeds on some of the bare spots. Timing was perfect, it rained for a couple of days after 1st application. Thank you”

Questions about fertilization and weed control

How many fertilization and weed control visits do I get?

It depends on the program. Our Maintain Green Lawn program has seven services a season, and Enhanced Protection and Restore-Maintain-Protect add more. Each visit is timed to what your grass needs that time of year. See programs and pricing.

Will the weeds die right away?

Most broadleaf weeds curl and fade over 7 to 14 days. Heavily infested lawns take a season to turn around; your technician follows up between visits at no charge.

Is lawn treatment safe for my dog and kids?

Here is the honest answer. Every product we use is EPA-registered and applied by trained technicians exactly as the label directs. The label is clear on the main precaution: keep kids and pets off the treated area until it has dried, usually an hour or two. Your technician leaves a marker flag and a note after every visit so you know when we were there and what went down. Anyone who promises more than that is selling something.

How long do I keep pets off the lawn?

Until the application has dried, usually an hour or two depending on sun and humidity. If you have a dog who has to go out, tell us. We can treat the yard in sections or plan the visit around your schedule.

Do you blanket spray the whole lawn?

Only when a lawn is badly overrun and needs to be brought under control. Once it is, we spot-spray just the weeds that come back.

Written price. Same technician. A real person on the phone.

The only thing between the lawn you have and the lawn you want is a phone call.
